Paralegal

Summary

Acadiana Management Group is looking for a Corporate Healthcare Paralegal. The primary responsibilities will be to support and provide paralegal services to the company’s Corporate Legal Department. Will work under the direction of the In-House Counsel as part of a cross-function team of legal department, contractual, litigation, compliance, licensure teams and departments. Performs all paralegal duties assigned and supervised by In-House Counsel in connection with healthcare-related issues. Assists and supports attorneys on health care matters. Under the supervision of In-House Counsel, drafts and prepares agreements, amendments, termination letters, correspondence and memos as necessary/applicable to Hospital contracts. Consults with other departments and hospitals. Manages and updates files in an electronic database, performs on-line database searches, interacts with corporate and hospital staff, as necessary.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Will assist in the Legal and Contract departments
  • Prepare contractual documents such as contracts, letters, opinions and modifications under attorney supervision
  • Perform Contract filing and administer electronic filing and system organization
  • Assist in the contract review and drafting processes
  • Maintaining oversight in the contracting process
  • Some experience and exposure to malpractice litigation
  • Assist in Secretary of state filings
  • Contact licensing agencies, internal & external personnel, and any/all other parties necessary to complete licensing applications & renewals in accordance with licensing agency requirements. Document licensing updates; report status updates to management; provide recommendations to resolve or correct any issues identified by the licensing/renewal process.
  • Must have good organizational skills and strong multi-tasking ability
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams for the completion of contracting activities
  • Update and maintain status reporting tools on various contracting projects in process

Qualifications

  1. At least 2 years of experience in health care law, commercial transactions, healthcare licensure and medical malpractice litigation or related fields
  2. Must hold a current Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved paralegal program and a minimum four years of experience in a law firm or corporate law department (OR a Bachelor or Associate level degree and five years of paralegal or comparable experience in a law firm or corporate law department)
  3. Notary Public a plus
  4. Required: Knowledge of healthcare/Hospital contracts and transactional legal work, licensure processes, ability to conduct legal research, some experience with medical malpractice litigation.
    • Excellent drafting, editing, and proof-reading skills, including legal writing, grammar, spelling and composition.
    • Excellent analytical, research, and written and verbal advocacy skills with experience executing in time-sensitive conditions
    • Proficiency in computer and word processing skills in recent and current versions of Microsoft Office Programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and Windows.
    • Ability to learn and actively use the Legal Department’s matter management system software.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including communication in a clear, concise and practical manner.
    • Excellent drafting, editing, and proof-reading skills, including legal writing, grammar, spelling and composition.
    • Manage, organize and perform a variety of activities simultaneously (i.e., multi-task), while maintaining accurate and complete records and files.
    • To demonstrate the judgment and maturity required to handle a crisis or difficult situations ensuring that appropriate decisions are made and essential people are contacted in a timely manner to manage the crisis or situation.
    • To strictly maintain the confidentiality of all privileged and other confidential, proprietary or non-public information that the Paralegal may come across in the course of performing his/her duties.
